On March 30th, the Penryn Fire Protection District held a dedication ceremony for their brand-new fire engine. It was the first engine purchased by the PFPD in many years, replacing an engine that has been in service for more than a quarter century. The engine now serves as the designated first response to any fire emergency for Penryn and the surrounding area.
The christening of the new fire engine was attended by many members of the Penryn community, with children helping out by toweling down the new engine after it was given a thorough soaking by Penryn firefighters. The event was also attended by local dignitaries, including Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes.
The new engine was possible thanks to the Penryn Fire Engine Capital Campaign. Fred Penney of Penney & Associates was more than happy to contribute to the protection of his hometown offered by the PFPD, and was recognized at the event as a signature level contributor.
“The Penryn Fire Protection District and the community sincerely appreciate Mr. Penney’s support of his hometown,” said Patty Neifer, a local volunteer with the Penryn Fire Engine Capital Campaign.
Mr. Penney’s father Frederick E. Penney, Jr., served on the Penryn Fire Department’s board of directors for 20 years, and the station was renamed in his honor in 2006. The elder Penney raised his son Fred in Penryn, and many years later, Fred Penney’s son Garrett Penney contributed to the station’s renovation as part of an Eagle Scout project. It was a fitting continuation of generations of the Penney family’s support of the PFPD.
Future signage at the station will recognize Mr. Penney’s signature-level contribution to the new engine, and his multi-year commitment to supporting the PFPD. He has also donated his suite at the Golden 1 Center to the PFPD for an annual fundraising event, and continues to seek new opportunities to support his hometown.
